Mangala Studios has specialised in the teaching of its own music and art based style of creative dance fro over 20 years. Established by Dorotea Mangiamele in 1970, teachers trained by her are now practising their craft in schools, day care centres, kindergartens, privately and in tertiary institutions throughout Victoria and interstate.
The strength and benefit of this style of dance and teaching is that it is based on developing the individuals own dancing. Once the dancers have learnt to connect to their own creative abilities through the dance,
they are able to draw from the inexhaustible supply of inspiration provided by music and, indeed, the world about them.
THE JOY OF DANCE - The Aim of Creative Dance
To lead each dancer into the rich and varied artistic, emotional, physical and spiritual levels of human experience - music from all ages and cultures is used. Dynamics, spatial awareness, and sensitivity to others through ensemble work are promoted through the design of the dance space, props and simple but effective directions from the teacher. Dancers are led towards a level of creative participation which allows them to extend and surpass their previous levels of involvement in the dance experience. The realisation of this potential to create as a joyful and uplifting moment.
